The Guide to Rome by Giuseppe Vasi ends with a "short and delicious digression" which covers the environs of Rome and in particular the so-called Castelli, small towns, usually belonging to an important family, located on the volcanic hills to the south-east of Rome. They offered a healthy climate, a tasty although a bit too sweet white wine and fine views over Rome, the sea and two little lakes.
